I used this:
View attachment 291113
other makes are hard to find apart from BMW ATF7 or Aisin AW-2, both are very expensive IMO.
the WESTWAY was about £100 for 20 liters about a year ago but is now £180 inc vat and delivery but still cheaper than others, link below:
hope that helps some..............B
Perfect thank you. I appreciate the help.

I don't know, whether the best branch to post, but decided to share my little so far but experience of driving my recently bought X1 `2016 at 105K miles. This gearbox isn't ideal. She's not perfect when's shifting down to the 2nd gear. the most embarrassing for me. Unfortunately car doesn't understand this during cornering as well. I think it's more software/electronic problem rather than mechanical. But it's just my driver's feeling. My bet is for, for that... that this Aisin gearbox is quite robust. I also get use to it and discovered some features. Not sure from car's model to model, but I have Eco mode option, which powers on only front wheels. In this mode, shifting up and down is way smoother. Good if drive alone. Also when someone sits in the car, an adult or two, e.g. adding more mass to the car - getting better with shifting as well! Such a trick, so put some rocks in the boot. Joke, but seriously, I'm about to feel, that the big part of complaints may be around a specific of this gearbox, not ideal to be fair, but probably quite robust... My point - can be drivable. Service's on soon. Will see how'll go though...

a gearbox reset can make a huge difference, it has driver driving style learning so if thats cleared it does help, when my daughter drives my x2 [ rarely;)] it can be a bit jolty as its used to my driving style, also a trans fluid change combined with a reset works wonders

How long since the last oil change?

Sounds good, I haven't heard of gearbox reset yet, the service is on my way soon. Yep, when I'm usually taking the car from my wife (she drives locally), the car is very responsive. I presumed only because it isn't cold :))

Aisin recommend 25 to 30 thousand mile trans fluid change

Checkout http://www.aisianaftermarket.jp
This maybe an incorrect assumption however listening to BMWs recommendations will IMO, lead to gearshift issues as seen all over the Internet. Even ZF have produced a video to extinguish their claims of lifetime.
that site is unreachable, BMW quote 60 thousand miles because they think most first owners will trade in before then and the warranty will be up, there is also a misconception that BMW say GB's etc are filled for life, but what they mean is filled for the life of the warranty then its out of their hands anyway

conflicting info from Aisin then, i got 25 to 30 thousand miles and a first fluid change at a thousand, cant be bothered looking for it but have stuck to this data for years, still say 22 kilometers is way too soon, that would be adding hundreds to every service, nobody would accept that

Anyway checkout all the 35/40k gearbox issues then listen to BMWs quote at your own risk. Strange that an oil change sorted mine at 37k, unlike some that have needed a new box.
i dont listen to anyone, i have been in the trade for over 40 years and worked for BMW years ago so have a bit of biased view maybe, i stick to Aisin spec, nothing strange about a fluid change sorting a Gear Box, in my opinion thats what 99% need along with a GB reset, works wonders in my experience
