Hi, my name is Dan and this is my first post on the forum. I have gained a massive amount of information and knowledge from using this forum and thought I'd best start with a thanks for all those users that are willing to give a bit of there time to help others.
I come from an engineering background and have done many an engine swap/conversion on a number of different cars, but never a BMW.
For the next couple of months I will be starting my next big project which will be converting a 2000reg BMW 318CI with the running gear from a 1996 540I 6speed manual.
I have contemplated carrying out the chevrolet LS1 swap which is the more common v8 swap due to its smaller size and larger Bang for Buck, but have chosen the M62 over the LS1 due to the M62 engine being much easier and cheaper to get hold of here in the UK, and if its good enough for HARTGE in their H50 model, its more than good enough for me. Obviously a small amount of tuning shan't go a miss on the engine before it gets dropped in.
To start I have managed to get a 318ci which has a blown engine and a 540i which has chassis damage, perfect combination for this project.
I will be collecting these vehicles over the coming week and will post pictures once I have some.
I hope this thread will be of interest to some of you, if not will be a complete breakdown if someone were to try this conversion themselves.
Thanks Dan
