Hi, i have a 318d saloon with 2.0 116hp m47 engine (2004/6), and i see all these remap sites on web saying that the 318d could be remapped to 144hp, at other forums they say that the car is basically a factory detuned 320d and the 320d can be mapped to 180hp. What is the differences of the 2 (physically same?) engines? How come the same engine cant do 180 hp?

all depends if it has the same turbo etc etc, the block is exactly the same but is everything bolted to it the same?

you confuse the term the engines the same with the block the block maybe the exact same 2 litre block but it maybe detuned mechanically not just electrically you would have to investigate further....

Okay found it out by google:

Larger, more efficient intercooler on 320d
ECU mapping
Uprated fuel injectors on 320d
Uprated manual gearbox on 320d, with higher torque capacity and longer ratios
312x24mm front brake discs on 320d (as opposed to 300x24mm on 318d)

fair enough.

As for the e46:
320d 150hp has uprated injectors, turbo, ecu map, higher torque 6speed gearbox, longer differential and standard 300 and 294mm brakes.

As opposed to e46 318d: same size turbo as old 320d 136ps, smaller injectors as like 525d vs 530d, gearbox 5speed max 280Nm, original brakes 286 and 272mm.

The intercooler is the same.

Hope it helps
