possible faulty bro i bought an aftermarket camshaft sensor for my e36 M44 engine and mine did the same sort of thing it reved irraticle on start up then stalled,i then put the old sensor back on and it started 1st time wiv no problem.i sent it back to the company i bought it off and they tesyed it and it came back faulty.i then bought a sensor from bmw and fitted that and it was fine.stick with oem when it comes to engine parts haha

 

i think u have the M44 engine in your Z3,sorry u dont just seen your other post

 

If this is the 6 cylinder you will need to un plug the the cam sensor then plug the new wire in to the cam sensor from the crank and the other end into the other spare wire

 

Hi there are 4 plugs on new harness. From what ive been told 1 to back of sensor 2 to cranksensor plug point 3 to plug at front of fuel rail next to vanos then 4 to plug you pulled of fuel rail. Is this right or have i missed somthing.

 

Disconnect the vanos solenoid plug and stick one of your new harness leads in to that female plug on the end of the fuel rail where the vanos was plugged in to. (1 plug used)

Plug the vanos solenoid male plug into your new harness. (2 plugs used)

Plug your other new harness plug into the crankshaft sensor, (3 plugs used)

and the other spare harness lead into the ORIGINAL power supply for the crank sensor. (4 plugs used)

Job done.
