Hi Guys, having a bit a problem with my X5 3.0d 2002 model. 190K miles!

It runs like new, no smoke and pulls hard, unfortunately its developed quite an oil leak. The leak is coming from the left side of the engine and dripping off the front diff.

Its feels like engine oil.
Today I replaced the filter housing seal and its still dripping.

It only seem to drip when the engine is running.

Anybody any ideas.

If you think its the main sump seal an Idea on how to change it would be much appreciated

As a newcomer to an X5, I am baseing these comments on my experience with a 5 series 3.0D, but oil can drip from the cam cover gasket - which tends to go hard and brittle, the oil cooler heat exchanger can leak on the side of the oil filter housing, and there is an "O" ring seal in the dipstick tube which can leak.

Your best bet would be to take off the undertray, and have a good look underneath to see where the leak is coming from.
