Wiring up E36 M3 oil temp on 328i after clock swap.

Hi there,

I asked the question in the E36 technical section if M3 clocks will work in a 328i. I have found out they will but there is an oil temp gauge instead of the MPG on the bottom of the rev counter. How hard will this be to wire up?

Will I need an aftermarket oil temp sensor, where would it go, and are there any wires already in place for it?

Or will I have to use the MPG wires from the socket at the rear of the cluster and put the oil temp sensor on the end?

Hopefully someone with some electrical knowledge can help me out.

Cheers

Had a read cheers, there seems to be a brown/red wire on the M3 loom to power the oil temp gauge. The 328i doesn't have it so I wonder if it's just a case of finding which wire powers the MPG gauge on the 328i and wiring it to an oil temp sensor then?

I'll put the m3 clocks in and see if the oil temp needle moves like the mpg needle to start with and if it does I'll know there is a wire triggering it at the rear of the cluster from the 328i loom. Hopefully I can then find it and run it to an oil temp sensor, I have no idea where that will go yet?
