Hello guys!

I'm looking to buy an BMW F10. I'm focus more on diesel engines and I got an offer on a F10 525d and 520d. I have read some "horror stories" about N47 engines with timing chain problem!?

What to look out when buying an used F10?

Thank you

Don’t let the timing chain issues put you off, just budget for replacing it by 100k if it hasn’t already been done and change oil and filter every 12 months 10k miles.
Can’t think of anything in particular to check just the usual mot history, service history and condition like any other car

They don’t end, they improve around 2011 and by improve I mean they could see 100k in the most part rather than failing as early as 50k.
B47 came in around 2015 and whilst it is a lot better they are still not immune from failing, i would still change it by 100k if it was mine.
the problem with them is they don’t always give warning of failure, yes you can have noise but I have known several just go without any warning at all.
