Hello
Im looking to find out how much interest there is in a uk produced supercharger kit for the M54 engine.
Im currently in development stages of this kit so what im looking for is some feedback on intrest in a fully installed kit,
How much you would expect to pay, and also what model BMW you have?.

This post is for market reaserch only.
I have had approval from the forum moderators for this post.

Thanks .

I'm sure they'll be plenty of interest but most of that will fade when they realise just how much a 'charger costs. For example here is one developed for the 328: VF Engineering. With that is mind, and what I paid for my 'charger for my 318is I would expect costs to be around ÂŁ3000. But then you have to factor in that the extra power means you'll need bigger brakes and possibly a new clutch (more money). The other thing to take into account for BMWs is the extra weight of the 'charger and upsetting the 50:50 balance. What about cooling? Will the kit allow for an intercooler or will meth injection be used instead?

Hi Kev,

The real problem with supercharging our 6 cylinder e46s is the m3 - those of us who lust afer more power of course want an m3.
I would say anything over 2 grand becomes false economy asthe prices of m3s are still falling.

I'm sure people would buy them at 2ish grand but I don't know if that price is feasible. including fitting mapping etc

you'd probably want to thing about how you would get the car on a rolling road too (hook up with someone local, although there probably isn't by you lol) because if i was spending 2 grand tuning my car I would insit on seeing the reuslts on the rollers.

Best

I am also installer and will produce my own software for the DME.
Im unsure of the cost at the moment as im still in development of this kit. As im sure your awaire mounting brackets have to be custom made and im awating a quotation per unit on the palns i have made. I'm really just looking for what interest there is because its all very well having the product but without the custom its pretty much just a waist of time and money. Im just at that stage when i have to take a step back remove the blinkers and ask the question.
Thanks

Injectors and mapping will be all with kit. As superchargers go they always use a bit of bhp The hks gt7040 has reduced drag so it should be kept to a minimal but i do not have exact figures just yet as im still developing the kit.
I was thinking of working in stages of kit. Stage 1 would run at 6.5 to 7 psi the M54 will run this all day with no probs, estimated BHP on a 330i is expected to achive over 360bhp running on 97+ octaine fuel
Stage 2 would require engine modifactions and would run 8 to 9 psi and expected to produce over 400bhp again on the 330i
the stage 2 would cost more as the engine will require modification.
Thanks again for your feed back

If you have the cash and like to play around with engines then why not supercharge?
but for me the m3 is the logical answer.
It'll be easier to insure or probably the same price and be easier to sell.
Someones already done the hard work for me and I know the car will last a long time.
Takes me back to the days of my fords and vauxhalls when I was forever fixing them just wanting a reliable car.
My escort was falling to bits at 38k when my compact did 186k, e36 328i did 154k and my e39 528i had dome 165k.
Funny that I only paid ÂŁ500 less for the escort than I did the m3 lol.
