Hello all,
My intentions are to make the M3 sound a bit nicer than standard, I know an exhaust upgrade is the more obvious option, but also a little pricey. Maybe in the future..
I did find this -
BMW M3 3.2 E46 K N AIR FILTER GENERATION 2 KIT 57-1003 | eBay
Is it a tricky job to install? I fitted one to my last car, but it was simply a case of removing the plastic box factory-standard air filter, replacing it with a cone and tightening with a jubilee clip. This one comes with various gubbins that I wouldn't have the first clue what to do with. I'd much rather have it installed by somebody else, as I can openly admit I have more money than sense. (I'm not rich, I just have the brain capacity comparable to that of an 8 year old with learning difficulties, which makes it pretty easily achievable) Plus having somebody else fit it means having somebody else to blame if it goes pear shaped ;-) Strategical manoeuvre.
What are the pros / cons of installing one of these to an M3? Is there anything else I'll need to have installed, or is it just a case of buying and fitting with no extra additions?
Cheers legends

Using a performance air filter in the standard air box dose not make any difference apart from letting in more dirt and sand in to your engine

We have proved this on the dyno many timesSent from AutoGuide.com Free App

That's interesting, as over the years at different dyno days I have seen removal of the airbox filter completely (done purely for curiosity) equaling more power, 3-5bhp extra on some V6 and C20LET Vauxhalls. The only extra thing entering the engine is increased air, so common sense tells me that a panel filter that increases air flow is better than a restrictive oem one.

Cone/Induction kits from what I have seen on dyno days are another story altogether..Waste of time.

i'm not sure what make it is as my e36 came with it already fitted, but i'm more than happy with the sound of it. From experience with my other car, i've never believed the hype about cone filters & the engine bay heat losing power either. My fastest 1/4mile time was done with a open/non-shielded cone filter, & that was after sitting in the fire-up lane so the temps would of been higher

I was at a rolling road tester few weeks ago he was laughing saying he gets people in all the time with these carbon induction kits costing ÂŁ250 etc they make no extra power and most the time make less than stock part
