Hi all thank you in advance for taking the time to have a quick read, my boy bought his BMW 318CI 2002 with 64k miles on Tuesday, drove it home no problems went out the next day put fuel in then 20 mins later kept cutting out and not revving. (I called the petrol garage but no one else has complained of poor running)

I pulled the error code which is as follows:
P0366 Camshaft Position Sensor B - Bank 1 CKTRange/Perf

So armed with my little knowledge I purchase a Camshaft Sensor and promptly fitted it and eagerly started the car to find its running exactly the same. It produced the same error code thats when I realised there were two sensors so I swapped the other one with the one I just removed and still no difference.

I have taken a small video in desperation that upon hearing it someone could point me in the right direction, my description for what it's worth sounds like a banging noise coming from the intake manifold almost like a valve slamming home.

I feel so bad as we took it for a test drive though feeling slightly underpowered it drove ok, its his first car and is devastated to say the least! Hope it's not terminal.

Thanks in advance.
Mike

OK so I removed the rocker cover to be presented with this

I have recovered a large piece of the guide. Any advice re bits remaining in there etc possible the chain could have jumped?

If I can establish if there hasn't been any terminal damage is it a job that could be carried out on the driveway changing the guide etc?
