Hi,

First off my car is a 2005 BMW 645 E63. the fault is Right Low Beam Defective. Using the cable from BMWcables.com i have a code re-out that i have found impossible to get any further information out of, can anyone help??

930B Right Low Beam Defective

Hex Error Code 93 0B 64 01 FF FF A9

I know this has the possibility of being an expensive fix so want to try and do as much DIY myself, so first things first....what the hell is this code telling me???:confused

Many thanks for any help

Joe

That's saying your front headlight is out.
The first thing to do is double check it and make sure it is working, and try removing and refitting it incase it is down to corrosion on the connections.

If that fails, it might be down to a problem with the module that controls the lights, I think it could be the footwell module on your car.

ive accessed the headlight through the little access panel in the arch, took the igniter and bulb out and reconnected everything making sure the cable is properly attached. So before i go buying random parts and digging any further i thought id give the INPA software a go and see if the code can narrow my search?

Im running out of things to google about the error code its giving me the run around.

That's all that the code will say.

If you have got the code from the "functional tests" menu, where it does a quick sweep of everything, it might be better to go to the individual module and page, and do a scan from there.

You might get slightly more information, but it looks like you have a short hex code.

930B Right Low Beam Defective is quite a long string in terms of ECU's memory and the ECU never stores things like that as text, just a few bytes in hex, in your case 930b6401ffffa9

The first 930b is the fault code, and INPA looks it up in a table of descriptions, the remaining bits are likely just to say how many times it has been seen, and whether it is currently present.

So things to do are check the name of the module making the code, FRM is the footwell module, and then look at "body" section of the 6 series in INPA and find the ECU that has the code.
That will bring you to a page purely for that module which may give you more details and options, but it is looking like all the ECU can tell you is that it thinks the headlight bulb is out.

Thanks for clearing a few things up, im still trying to get the hang of the software. ive had this problem before, headlight steams up, dipped beam malfunctions! swop over the 2 bulbs-no joy. swop over 2 ignitors-no joy! Then after 2 weeks all of a sudden it just comes back on!!

I'll try swopping again to confirm its not the bulb or ignitor before i delve any further
