Hi,

ive got an X3 (e83 3.0d M57) with a blocked dpf. I want to try to clean the dpf and have seen cleaners available from Würth etc which are injected directly straight into the dpf.
Please could someone advise where you have to inject the cleaner into the dpf and where the dpf is located. Do I access it from my the engine bay or under the car?

Any pictures would be so helpful too.
Thanks
Alex

The dpf is directly behind the turbo. You may be able to undo the fitting where it attaches to the turbo manifold and wiggle it back enough to get some access. To fully remove it is a bit of a job. You could also try removing one of the sensors and spray in from there, again not straight forward as they often seize in. The last option is to spray it down the pressure sensor pipe but first poke it through with some wire to check it’s not blocked. now you have sorted the reasons why it has not regenerated have you tried putting some additive in the tank and driving whilst someone clears the codes. This may just trigger the regen to start. It often takes a number of attempts at clearing the codes until it kicks in whilst driving at a constant 60 mph. if you log on to real and put in your last 7 digits of your chassis number you will be able to see where your dpf is.
good luck

Thanks Jim appreciated.

I think i can access the two sensors/pipes in the dpf - Whether I can undo them or not is another point as you suggested.

It looks like the first one (yellow arrow) is the temperature sensor and second the oxygen sensor (green)

Is it ok to spray the cleaner into one of these holes?

As they appear to be as far upstream as you can get you should be able to spray through them as long as they come out. The dpf is only held onto the manifold with a large circular clamp which has a spring on it. If you can undo that and move the dpf back slightly you will have a better chance of spraying. Unfortunately access is tight.

All sorted!!!!! Thanks for the help. I sprayed some more dpf cleaner in the dpf (between the turbo and dpf) and drove it for 2hours and eventually it did a regeneration. Jim, I couldn’t get the pressure or oxygen sensor off easily hence spraying it again as per your original suggestion.

i still don’t really know what the regeneration distance travelled is (see attachment) - I had thought it was the distance travelled between Regens but this cannot be correct as the time since Regen reset afterwards but this value hasn’t.
