Hi All, my E91 electrics died and & fairly sure its the footwell module, no wipers, dash board etc. but car still runs . So I got same part number of FRM2 module off ebay and watched all YouTube stuff on using WinKFP & NCSexpert to code. After failure I had no OBD...so fitted "new" unit and yes OBD works so some progress. I checked INPA and sure enough the ECUs are there with no VIN next to FRM module. Cleared errors and moved to WinKFP. Now I've always had WinKFP installed but never used it. I manually updated the SGDaten files as that seemed like a good plan. In WinKFP I can't really get anywhere...it loads and I think its connected but don't get a list of modules to code so i can't choose the FRM. The list is blank. The error log says 1020 error coapikf.cpp coapikfinit 31, file could not be opened for reading info.eng.

My quandry is...Is my WinKFP data duff ? How do I know I'm actually talking to the car ? INPA connects to the car OK. My KFP version is 5.3.1.
or should I not be able to put the FRM unit in as it has a different VIN..that I'm clearly trying to change.

Thanks in advance HELP !

I have had no need to do this so far but what do you mean by "I manually updated the SGDaten files"
I copied and pasted they from a download on Beemergeeks. Apparently; this isn't recommended but I had a BMCables install not a Coding tool install. I've just installed the coding tool and done the auto update on that install so I'll see if it does anything different later.

Thanks . I am going to import the sgdaten onto my BMCables build as I have another complication. The INPA that is part of the Coding tool connects to the car but wont report info on any of the ECUs...can't connect. My old INPA on BMCables sees the ECUs including the FRM with the wrong VIN. I've used the BMCables software for 10+ years and feel safer than spending forever getting the coding tool set to work. Its possible there is a cable compatibility issue but I'm getting side tracked into tools software and away from changing the VIN. The NCSExpert on BMCables worked fine so I'm going to keep on that build. Found a great PDF step by step on how to import daten in WinKFP ! Wish me luck.

Hi, just to let you know. I installed Coding tools and Rheingold onto my new windows 10 laptop a few nights ago as my old laptop became faulty. I hadn't had time to test it until just now, motivated by your post. Inpa and Rheingold work fine but the WinKFP is doing the same as yours. I used Coding tools to update the daton files.

My bad - I hadn't also select "Update WinKFP" after running update the modules are now listed without even being connected to the car.

Hope this helps
