Hi all,

Im searching for information on the headlight connector pins on a pre-LCI E90/E91, for both the OEM halogen reflector units and the OEM xenon units (all pre-LCI).

The best I have found is this one:

This was from another forum on a post about retrofitting bi-xenons in US models.

The issue with this diagram is that there is no pin shown here for the vertical leveling control. I assume that there should be one (or more than one), and Im trying to determine if there is any difference between the wiring for the halogen unit and the xenon unit that would have been fitted pre-LCI.

It would also be handy to get the pin outs for the LCI units as well, so I can see what the differences are.

Thanks

@Clavurion thanks I appreciate your reply.

I am however struggling to convert the electrical diagram into a pin out list.

I.e what I want to do is this:

PinPre LCI halogenPre LCI xenonLCI halogenLCI xenon
1
2EmptyGround
3Low beam (halogen)Low beam (xenon)
4GroundGround
5
6High beam (halogen)High beam (halogen)
7
8
9
10
11
12

Are the level adjustment motors the same in pre LCI halogen and xenon units, so the xenon leveling will work with the manual adjuster in the car?

So what im missing is what controls the halo rings (sidelights?), indicators, possibly what is on pin 5 (bi xenon shutter maybe, but what if its not a bi-xenon unit)?

All post 2004 OEM xenons are bi-xenons.

Like on your original post one possibility is to use halogen high beam supply for bi-xenon shutter activation. So just change the wiring to corresponding pin on headlight connector.

On these pin 1 is parking light (side light) and pin 12 is indicator on both halogen and xenon. (You don't have to care how the headlights are wired internally.)

Leveling motors are the same pins on both halogen and xenon. The only difference in functionality would be that xenon models have leveling sensors and the adjustment is automatic instead of manual adjustment wheel. The motor themselves work just the same.

@Clavurion thanks that's great info.

So I think I could not wire in pin 5 at all, and just forego the shutter mechanism functionality, so high beam lights the high beam lamp but doesn't open the xenon shutter.

In which case I'd only need to mod the pin 4 ground connector.

Would you know if the car needs to be coded to stop any canbus type errors on this quite simple xenon swap?

And I think you're saying that the manual leveling control will work just fine with the xenon units?

Is it the sidelights (pin 1) that controls the halo rings?
