E90 boot wiring repair

I noticed both reverse lights aren't working on my car (bulb warning on the dash too). Without checking the bulbs I have a feeling it's the wiring in the black tube thing as it looks like it has been hacked at before as it's covered in black tape. I've seen there are some repair kits around by Febi etc and BMW also do one for around ÂŁ200! How hard/easy are these to install?

How much would BMW charge for the work? I'd rather have someone do it but I also don't want to pay ridiculous money for it.

So I took it to a garage and they checked the wiring front to back and said it was fine but needed a new FRM. I spoke to another place that advertises as being a specialist for ECUs, programming etc and he said the FRM is likely okay but may have been swapped in the past but not coded to the car. I'm not sure on the likelihood of this??

Getting a used FRM is easy enough but there's no guarantee it doesn't have issues as well and then needs coding!

Here are the fault codes:
1.9CBC FRM: Short circuit Fault 1
2.9322 FRM: Reversing Light, Right, Faulty

Side note, any recommendations on to cover up the boot wires after the rubber cover has been cut? I usually use self amalgamating tape.

Having looked properly at the boot wires I can see some have been repaired (badly) and more look like they are breaking.

Is 61119133628 the complete loom? Would it just plug in at connectors rather than cutting and soldering things? I'm wondering if this would be an easier more long term fix albeit more expensive.

The Febi kit arrived but the colours don't match the wires that are on the car so it's now definitely beyond my skillset. Local garage quoted over ÂŁ300 to fit the repair kit (4 hours labour)

At this point it's cheaper to buy a new loom from BMW!

one wire at a time and it’s a doddle. So if the wire on car is brown pick a wire that is around same gauge and connect it both sides to the brown wire and so on.

short circuit counter can be reset with diagnostics capable of reading the FRM. Post up where you are based and someone may be able to recommend a place/person to do it for you
