Bought a e90 2007 57 m47 engine 320d

I'm doing a major service all filters oils etc and prob gonna get a mock mot to see what the 'running gear' is looking like?

Any advice welcome ?

same as my one.:thumbsup
if there's no history, treat it as a piece of machinery. it is what it is. a pre MOT is a good idea, will give you an idea of the legal stuff. a clutch/dual mass flywheel is an expensive job, and if you don't know if you're running on the original one or not would be good to know. if not, it's crystal ball time, same for the turbo. but mine has done 190000 miles, had it's first clutch at 180000, it had a traction control/abs unit thingy 2 years ago, and a software refresh because of a steering lock warning light last year. it's a complicated car, but there's lots of help and experts who will help for sensible money. that engine is known for its longevity, look after it and it will last forever. and, what a nice car to drive. :thumbsup

Remember that if you take it for a pre mot make sure the chap doesnt register it as a test. If he does and it fails for some reason your current mot is invalid. Not sure of the benefit of a pre mot as 90% of your car is covered by undertrays etc. Your DMF will be noisy if on its last legs. Make sure you change the fuel filter, clean out the Egr valve and if your car is running sluggish that may well be the air flow meter. Oh and a good dose of Forte injector cleaner wouldnt go a miss.
Look on ebay for a TCB tuning box, I bought one and its a great bit of kit improving performance to approx 188 bhp and the car drives totally different.

I have the same engine, currently at 214,900

2 x clutch
1 x DMF
1 X Turbo rebuild
1 x New tensioner/pulley
1 x Glow plugs

Apart from that she's been solid but that's down to 5k oil changes and only using V-power/BP Ultimate..

With no service history I'd possibly look at getting a terraclean, maybe check for smoke on start up and if there's any clutch noise?

Change oil and filter
Change air filter
Change fuel filter
Change crankcase breather
Clean EGR valve
Remove swirl flaps
Get an Indy Bmw specialist to give it a good general looking over.
Check engine is running at correct temperature 88-92c, the thermostats are a weak point on these cars, there's 2, EGR thermostat and engine thermostat, either stuck open can cause the engine to run cool (below 80c)

I have the same engine (2006 320d), the m47 is pretty damn reliable once the swirl flaps are removed. Mines been pushing 210bhp with a Emaps remap for the last 3 years, I drive it hard and it's never missed a beat, still on original clutch, dmf and turbo.

I change the oil every 6k miles and all other filters every other oil change!
