Hello all, I'll give a brief description of what happend and then any help would be great. Car starts from cold no bother drive for maybe a couple of miles for example to the shops, o.k. so far come out of the shop and the blessed thing will not start and theres nothing Mr Banger driver likes more than a BMW with its bonnet up!
Carrying out an investigation showed 3 coil packs to be not working so I got the car recovered home as its an Auto and ordered new coil packs. Fitted the coil packs and the car fired straight into life. Same journey again the car broke down, the car would not start so there and then I fitted the other 3 coil packs and it burst straight into life, aha no more problems I have replaced all 6 coils now, wrong the car did it again.
I placed the car on a Snap on diagnosis machine called Solus and it revealed two faults firstly a Tank venting fault code 68 and secondly a Intake air temperature sensor circuit fault. One thing I have noticed is the two metal fuel lines that run along the bulkhead vibrate like mad when the vehicle will not start but are silent when the car will start. Any help would be great.
Cheers

Right, I remember there was an SI fix for the vent valve vibrating which could throw up the code. If not, you can replace it as it is shown in the diagram. The intake temp sensor is part of you MAF. Have a read on how you may be able to solve that as well. Last thing you want to do is buy a new MAF as it is not cheap. :thumbsup

Thankyou Neal P I wasn't aware of the repair and mine certainly has not got that bracket. I have just removed the inlet manifold for a further look and I removed the vent valve and powered it for operation, it seems o.k. In tracing back the breather hose it goes to a cannister with a diaphram fitted in the top half and a chamber underneath I can only asume this is the Charcoal cannister?? when I stripped it down the diaphram was split and it was heavily compacted with sludge. Also when I removed the vent pipe oil dripped out the end. Is this cannister the route of all evil or am I barking up the wrong tree.
Cheers.
Colin.

Just rang my useless BMW main stealer they called it a cyclone valve?? Any ideas???

Hello just an update, stripped down the inlet manifold removed the oil separator/swirl valve and fitted a new one. Refitting as I'm sure you all know took three times longer than removal! Tried the car once rebuilt and yet again the chuffing thing would not start when warm. Placed the car on Snap on's Solus machine and the only fault now present is the air intake sensor (code 14) This I have seen is not in the MAF sensor but alongside that oil separator I've just replaced and whilst it's not ideal it is faulty it will not stop it starting. I got the car warm and placed Solus on it again as it would not start and up pops Crank sensor fault!! If it turns out to be the crank sensor I may do something I regret after all this......I'm fitting one tomorrow I'll keep you posted.
