BMW X1 18d xdrive - is the engine different to the 20d?

Hello, I'm just about the buy the 18d and notice its also a 2 litre.

Whats the difference between the 18d engine and the 20d engine, are they identical?

If they are identical then should me getting it chipped make them the same?

Also, who should I use to chip, I live up near Durham, in the North East

Identical, the x18d is tuned for ecomony and x20d for power, and best still a simple remap will take the power up to 250bhp!

I have a 2016 x1 20d would I gain much from a remap or chip?
power or more mpg?

There are three mappers on the forum vendor section so take you pick, but make sure you buy from somebody who knows diesels, a common error seems to be mapping out the Dust Partical Filter which causes it to clogg up and damage.

250bhp is probably pushing it a bit much, 220-230bhp is a more useable map

Depending on year the the later 118d and 120d are different engines, hpfp, injectors, pistons, turbo etc
The later 118d will only map to around 190bhp
I had a 2018 118d and approached Jason from bwchiptune for a map & quoted that kind of figure for power, he’s the man to speak to for advice.
I also live in Durham by the way 😉
