BMW E90 2006 FRM1 To FRM2 Upgrade - No Brake Lights!

Hi,

This is my first post on this forum and I am looking for some help with upgrading from my basic FRM1 to an FRM2 module that I have purchased off Fleebay.

I am familiar with Toolset32, INPA and NCSEXPERT and I have coded my VIN to the FRM2 and successfully coded my VO to the FRM2 module which I can see in NCSEXPERT (Happy Days!),

I have then accessed the module by fudging the build date (mine is #1205) and I changed to #0307 without writing it back to the VO,

I then coded a blank .MAN file and everything seemed okay other than I two bulb out warnings in the cluster (CC-ID 134 and CC-ID 136) - which refer to the rear brake lights, I then proceeded to code the welcome lights which worked perfectly, so everything was happy other than I had the two warnings and the brake lights were not functioning

I tried coding out the check control, warm and cold checks for the brake lights which got rid of the errors but still only the third brake light lit up when pressing the brake pedal

I read on another forum (for the E87) that the pin out is different on the FRM2/FRM3 from the FRM1, the forum stated to move the following pins:

pin 14 in X14260 to pin 16 in X14260
pin 41 in X14261 to pin 18 in X14260

I did exactly this but this time I get a right brake light failure message instead of the bulb out warnings and still no brake lights

It don't understand why it works on the E87 and not on the E90!

Has anyone done this upgrade and had any success with brake lights?

Please help I feel like m 95% there but now I'm stuck :-(

Thanks in advance

Jamie

Hi Litany,

Thanks for your reply,

I changed the VIN using Toolset32 then went into CAS through NCSEXPERT and chose the NFRM then did an FA_WRITE which copied my VO over,

I have tried coding using expertmode without a blank.man and the results are the same,

I have been looking at the PIN OUT diagrams on BMW Planet - and I can see the brake lights on the E87 have different PIN OUTS to the E90 - yet it's the same module?!

Did you ever get this sorted.

I am looking to go from an FRM to FRM 2 just to get the welcome lights.

I am not changing the headlights to xenons but keeping the old halogen ones.

From what i have been told i will need to get an FRM 2 NSW for this to work.

Any updates on your venture would be good.

Thanks,

Hal

Just to update.

Managed to replace the FRM with the FRM 2.

All worked as expected with no hiccups at all.

* Disconnected the battery
* Disconnect FRM
* Connect FRM 2
* Change VIN Number to one seen in NCS Expert
* Add in #0307 to the VO and remove Earlier # date (Allows NCS to be able to see the FRM 2)
* Use NCS to flash a blank MAN file to FRM2

Now you need to use NCS to code your FRM2 to how you would like. Love the idea of the Welcome lights :thumbsup

Bought some of these LED bulbs for my fog lights and they are now like HID's! having my fogs as the welcome lights lights up the front of my house when i unlock. Would highly recommend!

I managed to safely update the updated VO to the CAS so DIS V57 could see the new FRM. Without this, i could not perform diagnosis on the new module to make sure all was working as expected. Also, saves having to change the VO every time the want to make a change in NCS.

I hope this is help to people and will try and write up a full step by step when i get a bit more time.

Regards,

Hal
