Hello

My 2004 530i Auto has an error message, front left parking light failure. What is a parking light? Is it just a bulb I can changes or is it some thing a garage needs to do.

I would be grateful for any advice

Thanks
Jo

The parking light I believe is the light that stays on if you leave your indicator on and lock the car up.

The reason for this I think is to allow drivers to see your car parked on an unlit road.

Right indicator would illuminate front and rear os lights ( driver side ) and left would do the same for the ns lights ( passengers side )

The lights that illuminated are the sidelights.

Best thing to do is put your left indicator on switch off car and see if the passenger side light is illuminated. If not then check the rear. Also check the other side, right indicator on ignition of.

Whilst you're at it you may as well check all your lights are working especially all side lights.

Hello, sorry for the delay in replying. I have checked all my lights and a mechanic also confirmed all the lights are working ok. So sound like a ECU error? Is there any way to correct this without have to pay for diagnostic equipment to remove the error.
Thanks very much

Hi, have checked in the manual and it says that with the ignition off, if you push the indicators switches past the pressure point, then up turns on the right hand side parking lights (for if you leave it in a dark street) and down is the left hand side. I have tried this and it works. It turns on 2 lights on the front. One time I tried on the left hand side lights was not on, so i tapped the light and it came on. As this is the error message - "front parking light failure", I wonder if the light has a loose wire or something, causing the error message. All other times the lights work ok, but I still get the error message.
Could it be a loose wire?

Thanks everyone for your help.

HI Jo

Sounds like a bad earth or dodgy connection on the front light.

Could be as simple as needing to reseat the bulb,

The best thing to do is remove the bulb, clean the contacts and check for anything obvious and make sure the bulb is reseated correctly.

Then if the light comes on ok you have fixed it...however the fault code will still show and you will need it resetting by a garage with the right kit.

only a cheap job...around ÂŁ25 ish

Thanks very much for you help. After fiddling around today, the light is staying on ok when I test it and error message seems to be gone. May have been i just slightly moved something and all connections etc now ok. If error message does reappear I will take to a garage to clear the message.

Thanks again.
