Hello guys this js my first post, i recently bought a 318 ci 2004, the guy i bought it off said he changed the vvt motor recently.. I drove it for a day and all the lights came on with the engine turnin off by it self on the drive.. Took it to mechanics they said it was the one of the two units he charged me ÂŁ300 all the lights went off, today after a week the engine management light came on check it with snap on reader it shows the code 2a61 VVT teaching at stop, 2a67 vvt activation and 2d0f hot film air mass meter... Now the mechanic is sayin he wants another ÂŁ190 to buy a brand new vvt unit for the exhaust as he only changed one of them... Can some one please advice me on what to do as i am really confused...

Hi,

Changing the exhaust vvt (vanos) unit wont solve it, it's a problem with the valvetronics, sounds like the the vvt module (computer) has gone bad. Do you have the N42 or N46 engine?
You could try clearing the codes then unplugging the valvetronic servomotor on top of the cylinder head, give it a run and see what codes come back.
Stay away from that mechanic he obviously doesn't know or understand the engine.
