Hi Guys

Back again with another problem with my 2016 116D 1 Series. Drove it home from work this morning and it was absolutely fine, no problems with the power. Drove it tonight and I wouldn't say it's completely lost all power, it will pick speed up but a lot slower than normal, doesn't have the usual pull or "umph" when I put my foot down. 1st and 2nd gear don't seem as bad, however, in third when I put my foot down there is a very big difference in the usual power and it seemed like the RPM was stopping at 3000? But don't quote me on that.

One of my front tyres is at the moment at 1.7psi and needs some air in, would the cars computer cut the power down itself due to this? Or is this an issue that I should get my car booked into a garage to be looked at? There's no lights on the dash or messages in the control centre other than the lower tyre pressure message and symbol. The engine itself doesn't sound any different, doesn't sound like it's running rough, there's no smoke or anything coming out of the exhaust.

Any help and advice appreciated please.

Just thought I'd post another update. I've had the car in to a BMW specialist garage (not the dealership). They spent a few hours yesterday on the car trying to find out why I'm having these issues with power. Anyway, they've got back to me and told me all the hoses were on the wrong way round for the EGR intake etc. So it sounds like when BMW had it last when they replaced the EGR valve or when it went in for the recall to check the part, they've put all the hoses on the wrong way round, so I've been driving round without that working for god knows how long now.

They also found 6 permanent fault codes with the intake manifold, so now this needs replacing which they believe was the cause of the power issues.

Haha yeah sorry mate, glad you knew what I meant though! 😂 To look at visually the tyre looked fine though you wouldn't of even thought it needed any air putting in. The main reason I was thinking it was the car reducing the power itself was because it also wouldn't allow me to put it into sport or sport+ mode, so was thinking this was just another way of it maintaining stability by reducing the power. Either way, happy it only cost me 50p to sort out haha!

You threw me with 1.7psi as that is totally flat and would cause drag, so it was 1.7bar and now corrected to 2.1bar. I still find it highly unlikely the tyre pressure would cause power reduction by the dme. I had a puncture on my 330d I drive warned me about it but there was no power reduction other than my right foot.
I think it’s more likely whatever was causing it has coincidentally cleared itself, time will tell I suppose.

Yeah bar sorry. Visually the tyre certainly wasn't flat though, to look at you wouldn't even think it needed any air putting in. It wouldn't allow me to put the car into Sport mode or Sport + either so it wouldn't of surprised me if it was the cars computer reducing the power. Hey ho, it cost me 50p to sort out though in stead of it potentially being a bigger problem costing ££££ haha!

Hi mate

Thank you for your reply. I was just about to post an update as it happens! Turns out it was all completely related to the tyre pressure! It was at 1.7psi when it needs to be at 2.1psi. Never had this happen before but I don't know if I've ever had a tyre psi that low before to be honest. Anyway, as soon as I'd put some air in and reset the tyre pressures it was back to normal pulling in all gears.

Must be a safety feature that if the pressure in any tyre drops to a certain level that it drops the engine power?!
