Dear beemers,

In relation to some faultfinding I am doing, I would like to run the car without the compressor in the loop. I have heard it can be done, and that you can fit a shorter belt. Any experience on this? And what length of belt would do this job ?

Kindest regards from Denmark

Ok so I fitted the 6PK1706 belt and bypassed the aircon compressor, everything's fine but there's not much tensioner travel left to compensate for the belt bedding in or wearing, I'm going to leave it at that for now and see how it goes, If I was doing it again I would use a 6PK1690 that would give me another 8mm of pre load on the tensioner.

Tensioner and idler usually are the main one for whining/ rattle but my compressor pully has also fallen off before :ROFLMAO:
Hi guys i have a 2006 320d e90 my ac is whining real bad and the pulley feels loose with the belt off i can't afford to replace the whole thing yet if i bypass it will the 6pk1690 fit or go up a few mm say the 6pk1692 also anyone have a diagram how the belt would fit without the compressor thanks guys i have a feeling the pulley is going to come off and the noise is insane so any help would be massively appreciated thanks

I have a 2006 e91 M47 my a/c is the variable swash plate type without the A/C clutch I can have a look what size I used when I did this previously.

Mines a 55 plate e91 so would be the same I’m guessing? Just want a temporary solution while I get the parts to sort the AC compressor out, thanks

Its not a center bolt it is the main shaft of the compressor. You will need to grip the pulley very tight and turn the shaft anti clockwise. I have never tried this on the car. When I removed a pulley on my old damaged ac pump to take it apart I removed the compressor from the car held the pully with the drive belt around the pully tight and secured in a vice and turned the shaft with a small socket.

I think you will find it hard to grip the pully to stop it turning while it is still on the car, can not remember how much room there is. I suspect to nip it free after all this time will be difficult.

To be honest about the pulley, I am uncertain what you listed above is the correct one, it looks the same and they are referred to as magnetic clutch pulley. I know for fact there is no solenoid to engage or disengage your pulley as its fixed. I did not smash one open to look inside. There maybe different types of this pulley for different models.
