Many threads on this topic. Will try to outline why my scenario may be different as well as what I've looked at so far.

Car is well maintained and driving well, parked in Driveway and then this crank no start happening. There were a few days of extreme cold.

  • INPA diagnostic shows no codes (have tried via OBD and port under hood)
  • Innova handheld shows no codes (have tried via OBD and port under hood)

  • Brand new battery since issue started and keep it on charger to maintain charge as I'm troubleshooting
  • Core relays seem to be working. Have performed many tests on them as outlined on this forums and other videos (Fuel pump relay, DME relay) Ordered new DME relay to see if this magically fixes it.
  • Have checked many fuses, pulled and checked individually with multimeter (open for suggestions on specific fuses)
  • Hear the fuel pump kick on when starting, and can trigger manually from relay
  • fuel pressure 51+PSI at bar
  • Ohms check out on the single Crankshaft Position Sensor and the 2 Camshaft Sensors. Ordered new Crankshaft sensor just to see if somehow its reading ok but failing.
  • no oil in section where coils are.
  • removed coil and plug. did not perform actual test on either yet but did get shocked while holding coil and car was cranked. Would perform any other real tests here if you have suggestions.

That's all I can recall at the moment. Any advice or suggestions appreciated. I'd perform or try anything that I have already done or anything new. Just let me know.

10 years ago I had a similar no start but perfectly normal cranking on my 735i ( E38). It turned out to be a fault on the burglar alarm, which I could never have traced myself and it did not show on the diagnostic.

Have you maybe had an incident on your drive that has made the alarm immobilise the car ? I will try to find the invoice for fix as it may show what was done to fix it.

I appreciate the thought here and that did not come to mind. No incident that I am aware of but at this point trying all tips/tricks that are out there. I'll see if I can find a test for this in the mean time if you find out what they did please do send over.

Replace Crankshaft sensor today as a check, but same symptoms as listed above.

Pulled Cam Shaft Sensors off one at a time and both at the same time. No different response and threw codes.

New code, not sure if related to some of the testing I was doing. Have not seen it, trying to find what it means:
130 DK position monitoring - Deviation between DK actual and target position too large at the moment.

I'll continue to troubleshoot and post if you have any other feedback or ideas please send me a note.

  • Performed a test on each coil and they are all testing well.
  • Pulled all plugs and they are covered in a lot of carbon. Many are pretty wet, will try to attach pictures.
  • Compression test - most are running around 95psi. Had some test at 60psi but could have been due to battery being low by so much testing. One tested at 110psi.
  • Poured some oil in those testing 60 and they came up to around 95psi.
  • Installed new fuel filter

  • Next steps will be to install new plugs button everything back up and see if we can get better chance of starting.
  • if no change then I have cam sensors to install
  • after all of the above I will be looking at taking it in to have it looked at.

Anything else you all could think of I would be happy to try or test.
