1999 E46 318ci Juddering when pulling away after being stuck in traffic

When I get stuck in traffic and the engine heats up a bit my car starts to judder really badly when I pull away.

I have a 1999 318Ci.

It's fine when the engine is cold, but when it heats up a bit it's horrendous and it only affects me when I start to pull away. I have also been unable to select a gear twice. When slowing down and trying to put it down into first I was unable to do so, and subsequently was stranded halfway round a roundabout in rush hour!! I cannot ride the clutch when it is doing this juddering.

My mate thinks I am in need of a new clutch and flywheel.

What is wrong, why is it doing this and is there a simple solution?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Not at all. It only really happens when I get stuck in traffic. You live in Poole yeah?

I got stuck halfway round the Frizell roundabout in rush hour. Not fun. I've only not been able to get it in gear twice, leave it a minute or two and it'd fine. It's just the juddering.

If it's only the clutch then that's not so bad.

Cheers!

definately sounds like a clutch issue to me as well.

FWIW, when you do get around to changing your clucth, ensure you get a reputable outfit to replace it as many places don't refit clutches properly leaving your with niggly issues within 1,000 miles.

Also, its always worth replacing the clutch slave cylinder as the seals inside thsi unit do perish over time and also affect the clucth pedal performance as well as transferring the necessary inputs to the clutch system. This is usually a ÂŁ20/30 part and is a bolt off bolt in job which then only needs bleeding.

I currently have an RAC warranty (mechanical/electrical) as provided by the dealer "apparently the best warranty available" but they would promise you the stars i know, lol. which covers my car for a year. Would it be acceptable to get a replacement clutch fitted from them under warranty if my clutch was slipping at the end of the year?
How would i go about doing a clutch in? lol
On a more serious note would my warranty cover the buttons on the cd player not working?

yeah i would have said clutch, is there any build up of revs without the car really going anywhere?
