Apologies if there is already a thread on this knocking about - but I've had a look and I can't find an answer :confused

I currently have manual leather sports seats - and I am looking to make them electric.

There is a rumour floating about the internet that all facelift E36s are fitted with the wiring for electric seats in place - which in theory would just make it a plug and play upgrade once I acquire the electric bases. Can anyone advise on whether this is the case?

Having had a look under my seats there are a few different wires under there, but I wouldn't have a clue what was what :D

Many thanks, Chris.

I typed "electric seats" into search....
:lol Clever.

I have seen those threads, but neither really give a definitive answer. M-parallel talks about switching over the bases which seems straight forward enough. But as far as the electrical install all he says really is 'align the plugs', but I don't seem to have those already in my car to line up :confused

The other one concerns more the heating elements.

I was hoping there may be someone on here who has actually done this and could give me somthing of an idiots guide :hihi

I've taken the carpet out of my 97' TDS Touring with Sports Seats and the only plugs there were for the seatbelt pre-tensioner/airbag sensor. Electric seats were not available as a dealer retro fit option like heated seats so I suspect the wiring was only provided if you ordered them from the factory. Perhaps you could post a thread asking who has taken their carpets out as they might have found some "mystery" plugs?

Only one way to be 100% sure in your own car and that is to take the seats & carpet out. My heater box guide covers most of the info you'll need to do this...

If you don't have the wiring then you have a great opportunity to be the first to do this and document the process for the forum. Be sure to take lots of pics!
