How do people -am new here and not the most technically minded of lads but am finding this forum useful ! read a thread on here with an american link about "fogging" your airbox yourself which i thought sounded a good idea (specially as nobed i am id fitted a cheap nasty "chrome" (shiney plastic haha) induction filter off ebay which was causing me some probs and i dont think was doing my engine any good ) , anyways i had a go 2day and am reporting success !! i ran a 4" flexi ally pipe from my duct in the front bumper (m.tech type) to a new 4" connection i made in my airbox baisicly- is a bit bloody awkward and i may not have gone about it in the easiest way happen ,but it is poss ! give the car a good 30 mile test drive today and ive gotta say everything seems to be well and good so thumbs up for now at least ! car sounds better in every range and does seem to deffo have more of a sting in its tail ( especially in third for some unknown reason ?!) anyways will see how everything goes this week at work ( i drive all day long stopping and starting do at least 100 miles of every week ) and report back on the fuel economy - oh forgot to say did also give all pipes airbox and idle control valve a damb good clean at the same time so happen this helped also ?!

well zircon pal i have to be dead honest and ahem.. i dont know ! lol -makes me sound stupid i know but least im honest ! mine is a 1995 318is coupe ( n reg )- i had to remove the part that makes the horn work (which i relocated in the small space thats in the left hand corner of the airbox ) and think i happen had a little more space than usual as ive fitted some aftermarket angel eye headlights which i think made a little more room at the back of as they havent got the round black plastic covers the origionals did -the space was only just 4" as i say it was a sod to do !

Don't worry mate, there are only a few bits that differentiate the 2 engine revisions. Sounds like yours is an M42 like mine as my horn is right in the way too.

If you get a chance, could you take a quick pic to show the revised horn location? Also, how did you get the horn off its bracket?

aye ill take a couple when i get chance buddy need to take a fair few of the car and mods to be honest ive done a fair few things recently ! -the horn was just 1 nut to get off the bracket m8 (mine was very rusty!) ,a bolt is attatched to the centre of the round horn unit itself - had car on the moterway last couple of days i might add and theres no doubt its a lot better on acceleration ;-)

sorry it took so long -ended up bending the pipe slightly but you can see does fit from this -am going to use the black bracket on the right of the airbox to bolt the horn on (this was for the alarm thats now disconnected ) , havent done it yet as my horn isnt connected inside to the steering wheel anyway as i changed mine to a m3 wheel :)

no way really ? shit thanks for telling me like -does that mean the discs on that side would deffo get warped without as much air getting to ? could take the air from there but mine isnt actually a grill at the min (think thats m3 bumpers come like that and mines a mtech ) would mean cutting it out and meshing it

The mtech is just bars is it not? Why not just place behind the bars?
Lookin at your pics I see that you have no under trays on the bumper. If it's permemantly like that and not a case that you took it off for the photo, then I think you may be ok. Did you remove the duct piping from the bumper to the wheel arch cover? If you never had a duct piping then again I suppose it will be ok.
At least you will know what the problem is if you do get the warped disc feeling thru the brake pedal :)

Class--

no it isnt just bars on them pal -the bars are stuck on a plastic background which is part of the bumper (it looks like theres nothing behind them from a distance )and yes i did remove the ducting cut into it and used maybe 5" or so of the front part for the metal pipe to go over , the undertrays have never been there though - well as i say cheers for letting me know and as i put on the begining of the thread im not the most technical minded/knowledgable so do appreciate your imput and ill watch out for :)

well just reporting back - fuel economy is fine with it done, and also it absolutly pissed it down yesterday and i had to drive through which i was a bit worried about (due to reading a couple of comments in threads on here saying water may be a prob !) but the rain made no difference at all and all is well with !
