You'll have an EWS code inside the file, which means you'll have to use your original, otherwise you immobiliser will kick in.

 

thanks for reply, wasnt sure if i had ews, know anyone who can modify my ori file for me

 

thinking about it, i dont think my car does have ews cause there is no chip in the key and my ori file is identical to the original files from other 1800 bmw with same ecu

 

You might be on a crossover ECU, which bridged the gap from non EWS and EWS equipped cars.

A rubber ring around the ignition barrel would be a good giveaway.

 

yes ther is a rubber ring, so its non ews then. cheers for the help the end, much appreciated

 

The rubber ring is the EWS aerial, you should find a wire off this to the send and recieve EWS box, which is kinda like a modem, and that then connects into the EWS box, and then onto the ECU.

 

sorry thought u meant the plastic ring around the key hole, ther is no ariel around the barrel and all thats in the key is an led
