1993 E31 850ci instrument cluster check

Hi, All of the dials on my instument cluster are not working, I have checked the fuses. I have found this video on youtube of a check you can do holding the trip/odometer reset button but was wondering if it will work on an older 850. I thought i would ask before i try it. Many thanks
