Hello everyone, new member here :)

I found a really nice E30 325i, but it's an Auto and I want a manual...I've done some searching on the forum and seems it's quite easy to do the conversion, if you've got the parts, but a garage will be doing it for me anyway.

The question I'm asking is do you have to notify DVLA about the gearbox conversion? If you have a look in the "Changes to the vehicle" part of any log book, there's no space for any transmission modifications?

yes do it all you need to do is notify the DVLA to get your car showing as a manual and just keep a record in your history of the change for the next owner and tbh a proper petrol head will prefer a manual over a auto anyday :thumbsup

With a car like an e30, bodywork and general condition is the most important thing. If you've found a 325i with great bodywork, great history, all original etc etc and the only down side is that it's an auto then I would say it makes sense to convert it to a manual.

If it was a choice between that and a ropey example with a manual box in already, I know what I'd choose.

manual box: better mpg, better acceleration, more revs to use and you feel more connected to the car,

auto: grab your slippers and pipe and start planning your funeral there that boring

Go for it :thumbsup
