Clutch judder is usually something like oil or some other crap somehow getting on the surface of the clutch itself and causing it to not grip properly or smoothly when engaging causing the juddering effect as it grips in part, then slips, then grips and so on.

It can also be caused by other parts of the clutch or flywheel being slightly out of shape usually from being just plain worn out or glazed to the point it's not getting consistent grip. or even release bearing you could try slipping the clutch giving it some power it might clean it up

 

check gearbox/engine mounts too

 

If it's a Hydraulic clutch rather than a cable operated one, I have had good results in the past by just changing the clutch fluid.

thanks for all the feedback. My mechanic (a BMW independent) had a look and a drive and doesnt think their is anything abnormal

Following a full service the car seems to be back to her good old self, with the judder gone!!
