I've bought a zymol starter kit with the carbon wax and it came with a bottle of HD Cleanse.

As I understand it the HDC preps the body for the wax so the wax sticks better but is it really essential to use the HDC?

I tried it on one panel and it's a bugger to buff off :confused and it took away the smoothness I had achieved using the 3M Rosa. I did the rest of the car without HDC and TBH didn't notice any downsides by not using the HDC but being the paranoid chap I am I'm wondering if I should go back and use the HDC.

I'd appreciate your thoughts :)

Its not strictly needed but depends on how clean you're paint is in the first place. I'm not familiar with "3M Rosa" can you explain what this is? If the paint is not prepped properly you it will still look the same but you may not get the same durability.

Also its possible you used too much HDC if it was difficult to buff off, but alot of paint cleaners can be like that, i use serious performance paint cleaner and that's the same.

I probably should have explained better - sorry.

I did a full wash with meguiars gold class/wash with zymol autobathe/clay sonus/paint correction (as best I can) using Menzerna polish and the final layer to give it a shine before wax was the 3M Pink Rosa

http://www.3mselect.co.uk/p-1646-3m-polish-rosa-pink-80345-1-litre-bottle.aspx

I may well have sued too much of the cleanse as I'd never used it before and the paintwork is v clean (I'm about to put up a thread showing my new car).

So HDC is a paint cleaner - can I ask why it is necessary and what it does that makes it different to polish?

Ah that explains it! The Rosa has sealant/wax properties so by using hd cleanse over the top you are removing the protection it puts down. Thats why it didn't look as good after and was also hard to buff off. You need to use HD Cleanse and then either the 3M OR the Zymol wax. Personally i would use the wax.

Paint cleaner uses chemicals to deep clean the paint and lay down some polymers to help the wax or sealant "bond" to the paint.
A polish will usually contain abrasives. To be honest using the HD cleanse wont make it look much different because you have already cleaned the paint as part of the paint correction process, but it may help with durability of the wax.

Thanks Gav :)

Boy do I feel like a prat - I'm glad I didnt do the whole car and strip off all the polish I'd put on - I'll have to remember for next time :hihi

I doubt I'll be using the HD Cleanse too often :lol

No worries mate! I would just top up the wax every month or two, then after say 6 months use a mild clay, the hd cleanse again and then re seal. Should keep it looking good!

I personally like hd cleanse, yes its a bit awkward to use in comparison with some of the easier products available, but its definately worth using as it gives a top notch shine and also fills in swirls/imperfections very well, its the perfect base for your zymol wax of choice, mine being glasur:)

Chaps I'm about to go through this process again in the next week or so, could you check over my process as I want to get the best possible gloss/depth:

Wash with megs shampoo
Dry
Zymol autobathe
Menzerna final finish with kestrel polisher
Zymol hd cleanse
Zymol carbon wax

I'm a little confused as to when to use the autobathe and cleanse?
