Hello all - hoping someone can help advise me on whether or not a 2012 (62 reg) X1 with 70k miles on the clock is a good idea? 2L, manual, diesel. XDRIVE18D M SPORT

I drive 80 miles a day (motorway) and looking for a nice, comfortable car which is suitable for a young family too. I don't have a huge budget - this X1 is £8k. It's a really good looking car, I'm not knowledgeable about cars.. owned a 1 series previously and loved it.

Running costs, reliability? Is the mileage too high? I'd like to run the car for 4 years ideally before trading it for another?

3 owners - full main dealer service history

The mileage is nothing if it's been serviced and looked after well and if continued that car should take you into 200k miles. My advice would be to check its service history and get a hpi check done. Maybe even pay a mechanic to take a look at it for you.

Honestly, on modern engines 70k miles isn't much at all as long as they haven't been ragged.

70k wouldn't bother me in the slightest to be honest. I've bought loads of cars with similar or higher miles.
Only thing to check is what in terms of servicing is due soon. People often move cars on just before a service is due and at the very least this can be a negotiating point if you decide to want to buy it. Full dealer history is good, are you buying from a main dealer, independent or private?
Before handing over your hard earned, just make sure everything works as it should, take it for a decent test drive and make sure you don't get any warning lights on the dash. You can pay for an independent inspection, a BMW specialist, or at least someone that has the ability to read fault codes would be ideal.
