Ive got 16" 175 wide wheels/tyres on my car and have been thinking about getting some nice 18" bmw wheels but i love the amount of fun i can have with the smaller wheels and use the rear wheel drive factor alot easier!

Big wheels and compremise or go for the fun!? :cool

Everyones Opinions welcomed!:hihi

I upgraded to bigger 18" alloys in the summer and appearances wise it's a huge improvement on the 15" stock alloys. However the ride isn't as comfy, especially with low profile, wide rears (255/35/18's), and the thinner the tyre in the winter the better, so ideally I'd have bigger 18s or 19s for spring/summer/autumn use and go back to stock 15s or 16s over the winter. Wish I'd kept my old 15s now!

Thats exactly the reason why im not too sure mate. i love the look of bigger wheels because they fill the arches. I may have to buy the bigger wheels and keep my original ones for the winter months! thats a pretty good idea lol. Plus in the summer i try not too have too much fun in the car cause dry tarmac and rubber doesnt seem to work very well, very expensive haha:hihi

IMO, going for a wheel upgrade is not bad thing and playing with sizes within reason is OK.

IMO, on an E36, 17" is plenty. Any bigger and you just make the car look like daft wide boy car.

Our demo 328i has 18"s - looks too big and make it look daft and doesn't handle as sweetly as my personal 328i which is on 17".

IMO go for 17" alloys, you will get the looks and won't b@stardise the ride. (drives OK on 18"'s but if yo're picky like me then 17" are nicer).

I would run the big wheels during summer and stocks during winter. 1 this way you don't have to pay for expensive tyres for the bigger wheels so regularly and secondly I have found that grit on the roads munches into the bigger/prettier wheels whereas the stocks seem to be less averse to this and tbh I am not too bothered if the stocks have a few marks on them. End of the day choice is yours though ...... I am currently wondering whether to go for 18" parallels all year round or 19's for the summer .... leaning towards 19's for the summer. Also remember to tell your insurers about your wheels as they are classed as a modification :thumbsup
