I recently upgraded my BM24 radio module into a BM54 by using a chip with newest firmware (the cost for the chip was 28 quid).

Benefits of firmware upgrade are:

- no need to buy a new expensive radio module to upgrade you system
- no need to buy expensive new cables (- use your existing!!)
- no need to recode the radio module (- it's the same radio!!)
- no need to worry if the radio fits your car (- it fits!!)
- new firmware supports ID3 -tags and track names (on MP3 files)
- new firmware supports split screen on radio
- etc.

The get the full benefits of this new mod-chip you should have Mk IV Nav computer with newest software, I have version 4-1/100 (shows as 4-1/00).

Why is upgrading from BM24 to BM54 possible? Because the hardware is the same, the difference lies in firmware.

The soldering of this mod-chip should be done by a person who has some experience in such work.

Where did you get the chip?

The BM24 and BM54 hardware is not identical by any means, maybe the main chip is though.

Are you sure you're not updating an early BM54 to a later one (September 2005 on)?

It was BM24... !!!

And the chip was not easy to find, I might add, I searched for it for a long time. Found it by chance on e-bay.

Could you please tell me from which seller you bought this chip from. I have found an ebay store that upgrades old radios to new versions, but they charge wuite well. I assume they use the same method as you did.
Thanks.
