Hello, just recently purchased BMW Z3 2.2i roadster 2002, 65,000 miles.

I had the car recently inspected from below by a mechanic which noted some signs of surface rust but advised that with the exception of the break pipes that need replacement the rest is surface rust and not of a concern and seem normal for an 18 year old car. He also advised that the car is in good condition for its age.

The guy did not seem very competent to me hence I am uploading the pictures for a second opinion.

Would welcome other peoples view on whether:

1) these are considered significant

2) rough estimate for repair

I agree with @Evog, its not serious considering the age of your car, pretty much 75% of the cars' underside here in the UK look alike yours and it's considered a norm condition! However some people may be pickier that others and dont like any corrosion at all!

TBQH even if you repair it, its gonna look pretty much the same a short period because we still use salts on our roads unlike Japanese hende their cars are rust free when imported here.

Hope it helps

I would agree with the others the wheel arch rust will probably need some work and painting before too long and the rest looks pretty normal for an 18 year old car.

The fuel tank strap looks like it might be getting a bit past it though but can’t be too expensive to sort.
