Hi. I'm looking to buy a 2011- 2014 520d/525d/530d. Iv heard that the timing chain can be an issue before 2013. Can anyone confirm this is true? Also I have my heart set on the larger screen but that obviously rules out a lot of the cars. Is it possible to change the screen? Thanks alot for reading I hope these questions haven't been asked dozens of times and everyone's fed up of them.

4 cylinder diesels suffer with chain issue mainly n47,worse so on earlier models but the later n47 does still have issues. If it’s not been done by 100k then my advice is to get it done.
Later b47 are better still but again they do have some issues aswell. I have changed a couple of b47 chains but loads of n47.
The larger screens can be retrofitted but you will need someone to do some coding after the hardware has been fitted. You can also swap screen out for an aftermarket one that has extra features like CarPlay and android auto along with being the large screen.

6 cylinder in the 530d will have a lot less chance of chain issues
