As you might be aware, i'm doing the M50 manifold conversion on mine this weekend, and all work halted yesterday because I need some more pipework, and the shops aren't open until tomorrow morning for me to continue the conversion....

In the mean time, my mate has lent me his Scooby..... And i've gotta say, I love the power delivery !
And yet, even before my conversion, when in a straight line on the roa..... runway, my car 'just' kept up with his Scooby. But actually driving it, feels completely different !

I think I need a Scooby - Please tell me i'm being silly :rofl !

I'm gonna get shot down in flames for this but we look after a couple of scoobys at work and I love them. They handle bloody superb with the 4wd and they so responsive. The turbos are not as laggy as some cars but standard they go well but with a few choice mods they can be animals. BUT the parts prices are horrendous. I had to get a pair of wiper arms for one last week and they cost £100+vat....:eek they are also surprisingly easy to work on as well, had the gearbox out of a legacy a couple of weeks ago in a hour and surprised myself...:hihi. As much ad I like them I still prefer the BMW as it feels a bit more special inside and better quality.

The turbo kicks in at about 2,500rpm, and full boost by about 3 to 3,500rpm.... Not too laggy.

And I agree with part prices, he replaced the fuel filler neck, and that cost him £50 IIRC, second hand. And he needed to replace the rear shocker, and that cost an arm and a leg, but can't remember how much it was.

I came very close to buying an imprezza; one of the early (cheap) ones. What put me off was the interior, it's just soo bland. I'm not normally one to get hung up on such things as I tend to focus on the more mechanical things but I couldn't get over it.

You lot aren't helping, you suppose to convince me not to get one :rofl

Sphinx, them early one's are ugly on the inside. My mates is a year 2000, Turbo 2000 Scooby, so it's got the slightly nicer interior... And it's growing on me, but I would miss the OBC !

i was gonna get scooby wagon no matter what but i couldn't justify the insurance costs as i only use my car 2-3 times a week, so the bm came up trumps in the end. Ace cars despite the boyrace/chav stigma attached to em.

I had a 1995 sti import that ran 350 bhp and was a complete animal to drive but with 20 mpg fuel economy and ridiculous insurance but do miss the turbo whiish and have owned a ford rs cosworth 2 wheel drive in the past and good cars as they both are they cannot match the solidness of my 328i coupe(e36)and love the straight six noise on full chat and 150 mph standard anyway.

i blew the scooby after 6 weeks due to oil starvation after a bit of spirited driving at 160 plus but parts were expensive for everything anyway but love the sound of the boxer engine but i am sorry in my opinion its the bmw for me i am afraid

I'm guessing its the raw power you're enjoying....hang onto it for a month or so and keep it as a daily drive then the backache, fuel bills and insurance will change your mind. They are great cars and great at what they do, would make a great "2nd" car but...if i had a choice for the 2nd car, along those lines, i'd have to go for the Evo.

i agree about the evo(7 upwards)

subaru

plus points-fast,turbo,boxer sound

against-bland,cheaply made,insurance,fuel economy,parts

evo

+fast as hell,sound,handling,image

-insurance,servicing,fuel

had or driven both and its the bmw every time for me but the choice is yours

Coming from Punto GT's, I love the way the power is delivered in one chunk... Whereas, on the Bimmer, it's across the rev range.

I might change my mind once the M50 is fitted, and I have the FULL power across the whole range !

Gotta love the dump valve too :D

My mate has an STI Scoob. It is very fast and frantic. My old 328i E36 used to give it a good run though......Ok it beat me but not by a huge amount and my 328i was so so much better on fuel and ride.........Plus pulling up in a BMW 328i Coupe always looked good and went down a treat with the women, my fiancee used to get really annoyed with it :D

crap interior but it doesn't matter. :cool:thumbsup
:jaw-dropping strange statement when ya spend 95% of your cars life lookin at the inside not the outside..

like buying a house with a lovely mansion look outside but a shithole out of date inside where your actually going to be living..:hihi:hihi

I'd love to take a scoobie round a track or up a runway, but could never own one it just dosnt make sense financially

Not over impressive on either track nor runway. Would only benefit on a very tight twisty handling course.
Agreed!!

I loved the feeling of my E36 328i, such a great car. When I have driven my mates STI it's way to frantic, You cant just sit back and cruise. At 120mph in the Scoob you know it as both hands grip the steering wheel, at 120mph in the 328i your still chilling!!

I know my mate puts silly amounts of petrol in his Scoob and parts are just stupid prices.
