Lee Shannon BMW Specialist In Bentley, Farnham

I just wanted to share my experience with this mechanic, he is one man band but very very good. He was recommended to me*through a friend of a friend who has M3 and M4 (nice family pack) being looked after by Lee. I then googled him and everywhere he is highly rated.

I was prepared to drive for 30 miles to see him and get my 97,000 bimmer diagnosed, i know car has some issues here and there (nothing major),*i got MOT comming up soon (need to know if anything will fail)*and i keep having trouble with tracking so it all made sense get someone good to check this all out with me under the car and if i have to pay extra for good quality service, so be it.

I came to him last week for one hour diagnostics,*i was very impressed by his knowledge, he examined every inch of the car,*detailing where there is an*issue, known issues to the model, what could be a developing issue and etc... we then run OBD diagnostics to pick up any faults and checked software updates on the transmission and engine. He also done little touch ups here and there as some rivets and screws were missing and kindly lubricated door locks for me, then we had a chat and tea.*I came away thinking what a nice guy*(breath of fresh air) and having detailed report in my hand with all prices item by item.

I was not planning to return to him to get all issues sorted as he is far and i was going to get all works done by maybe couple different workshops near me. Then on*same day i looked at his costs again and they were really not massively overpriced, thinking;*would i pay a little premium for his reputation, knowledge and dedication and answer was YES, i booked my car in for this week to get all done by solely him.

My car was ready 1 day earlier to agreed deadline. When i arrived to collect and pay what was agreed i realised he did not charge for extras he did as per below list, some are minor but really i don't think many mechanics would just do it for free:

-He kindly installed second hand engine under tray that i ordered from ebay to his address

-My AC control unit started playing up day before i drove the car to him, again he received used one i ordered from ebay to his address, installed it, coded it in and tested 3 times.

-My car had some clips and holding plastic tubing missing where the air cabin filter tray is (in front of it), he simply ordered the parts and fitted them for free, i am sure it didn't break his wallet but really where do you get someone doing this??

-Litre of oil top up as he replaced breather valve and perished oil tubes.

On the final note, perhaps he hasn't got all the latest gadgets and big fancy garage but he has got a great level of customer service and skill set. He is mostly booked heavily but i noticed he works from 08.30am till average 18:00*or sometimes later. Sometimes you can't get hold of him for couple hours, i guess he is working on a car, just ring him back, you will get him and he won't cut you off and will spend time talking to you, when he is with customer, he will politely mention this one the phone. For fun*I have asked him if he was going to do a website and he said he doesn't need it the way his business is been*- full booked.

Forgot to mention he doesn't appear to markup prices on the parts hence he itemise each part and labour with a unit rate, so many garages do that which is annoying...

BMWMAN Heanor Derbyshire

Anyone in the Derbyshire area may want to look into BMWMAN in Heanor. Lovely people (James and Helen) and really seem to know their stuff.

They have had my 320d to check out a whining noise (bent alternator rotor) and give it a general check over (good health other than rear lower ball joint). All work carried out to a high standard at a good price with zero fuss.

As with all good Indys the negative side is that they do get very busy, that said James seems to work good hours (including Saturday) to cover this.

BMWMAN - BMWMAN is a family run business, part of BEEBY Engineering LTD

https://www.facebook.com/www.bmwman.co.uk

I have added the link to their facebook page as the number of positive comments is one of the things that swung it when I was weighing up a few 'local' options. I know it's not the first place to go for this sort of thing but it gave me a good feeling about the place.

I'll add this one as I use them for the MOT and things beyond my very basic knowledge. Brown Motor Works in East Greenwich, London. Not cheap, but not as expensive as the BMW dealerships. Very good service, and will fit parts that you bring in. Small place, gets busy, and it's interesting seeing the various BMWs they service. They know about their bimmers as the owner has experience in them going back well over 30 years. They service Mercs as well.

I can definitely recommend Westley at W. M. AUTOS in the Brighton area (East Sussex)

He's a mobile mechanic but he's very familiar with BMW's having an E92 himself, and having had E30's and E46's in the past. He prices by the job, not by the hour, and is very friendly & knowledgeable . Saved me from spending more money than was necessary on my front wishbone lollipops and noticed that it was the shocks & drop links at fault, even knocked £40 off the bill from the initial estimate.

Services Offered:

M.O.T.s
Servicing (includes resetting your service light and stamping your service record)
Brakes
Exhausts
Jump Starts & Battery Replacement
Radiators and Cooling Systems
Steering & Suspension
Cam Belts/Timing Belts
Engine Management Fault Code Reading (Engine Check Light)
ABS (Anti Lock Brakes Systems) Fault Reading

CHESHIRE/ALTRINCHAM:

My personal recommendation is Manor Garages - in particular: Ian. The garage he owns used to service all Manor BMW vehicles sold before they moved out of being a BMW dealer in Altrincham.

I've used him for all my previous vehicles and he really knows the stuff and doesn't overcharge; reasonable guy who won't rip you off.

Although, I have not used him on my F30 yet - still deciding if to keep it main stealer or not?

The only way to contact them (as recommended here) was via FB. The reviews there are 50/50, someone saying he’s not responsive and after booking in made a person drive hundred of miles to find the garage closed on a weekday without notice. Dropped him a message on Monday and to this date not heard back from him so won’t be going there no matter the recommendations on here. Also have been checking out Series 9 as recommended here, however Google reviews (and other sources) seem to be terrible, most BM owners said that they’re a milking factory - won’t be going there either.

Still looking for a decent garage as need to start working on two issues myself, a rear diff and a steering wheel lock.

Banbury BMW indy

Just moved to a new area unfortunately leaving behind a very trusted mechanic. So looking for a new one either in the Bromsgrove area or Banbury area. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
Hi Rich,

In Banbury you have a BMW Indy (Mini`s too) by the name of JOHN DARBY which is 5 mins from J11 M40. Thorpe Rd i think. I used this garage over a 3 year period as it was round the corner from my work. John is a bit like Marmite lol but he has a chap called Kevin working for him who is a really decent bloke & a top mechanic in my book. John though aint cheap labour wise but he does or used to use Gen BMW parts so that's a good thing . Usually on a service he was within £20.00 of a dealer! Other jobs i had done his labour bill took the pi$$ in my book but thanks to Kevin the car was always spot on.

On my last visit the "other" mechanics were let loose on it. I ended up putting trims back on the car myself so not impressed & NOT been back since. I still could use him ...but wont.

John & Kevin do know their onions though & are very helpful so if you get stuck these guys may help you out.
