i recently in nov baught my bmw 318i n i just baught a mutantX sub with a front set of speakers wat i wanted to buy too was 6x9's problem is i can't.
i had some1 look at my inside of boot and found a problem that this car has a metal frame wich i'm thinking it has to do with the chasis...
the speakers i got are round so the just slot in..
has anyone got/had a simular problem that i have got because i really do want to fit 6x9's inside the car so any help will be very greatfull

I come across this problem you want these m8 http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/speaker-adaptors-p-527.html:thumbsup

They fit like this, just take the shady standard items out, fit the adaptors then the 6x9s go underneath, dead easy to fit, and sound good.:thumbsup
Good post Steve.

Can't think who pointed you in that direction:rofl

These are the only way to get 6x9's into the shelf... Well, there are other ways but this is the most recommended:D

Cheers A20 yeah I wouldv still been scratching my head without you:thumbsup

thank you. quick question will these look out of place underneath or on top?
They only fit underneath m8 because of this-

Youd have to remove all the foam, cut the shelf etc., besides you can put your grilles back on top so no-one can see youve got speakers:thumbsup

Sound from the 6x9's should not be affected:thumbsup

The four doors do tend to lose some base due to the metal surrounds the boot but members will be able to advise you of the best route in order to minimise this:D

cheers all for the replys n help, due to the pc being broke since i last posted it prevented me from puttin pics up. (I'm now on the playstation 3) well anyway i got more questions...... i just took out the basic front speakers n replaced them with 13mm kenwoods working great n i did a pefect cut n fit. i'm now looking to add another set of fronts (Fusions) to the bottom of the door near the seat. at the moment i have 1x 500W 2ch amp on the way with the Fusion 6x9s will i have to buy another amp for the fronts? i'm not looking to cap them as it reduces sound n requires more Voltage... any tips??

IF I CAN JUST THROW A QUICK BIT IN ,
I would highly recomend buying some dynamat and doing the underside of the rear shelf as well as the doors , it is an expense some people tend to shy away from but as far as sound quality goes it improves it a lot and keeps the bass nice and deep .
I have some pics of my Mk4 escort which i done properly , i will post them shortly .

Right 1st up , yes you will require another amp . I would recomend using the one on the way to run your 6x9`s in the rear and if you insist on having another set of speakers in the front then buy a 4 channel amp for that purpouse . Does your system have enough audio outputs .
I run a DLS 5 channel amp which was my original main amp for everything . Now it is used for my front components and 6x9 rears . I use 2 x 1100 watt mono amps now to run my 2 x 12" Rockford subs , a later addition to the system . While it is being installed (slowly) into the Beemer i have used the 5 channel amp and hooked up one of the subs just to give me some bass , and after being without my system for a few months now just that and 6x9`s with standard front sounds wicked.
Problem is you just get used to it and want more. Previously i stopped because it was killing me financially trying to get perfection . Now i have used the same system for almost 2 years and it has still never made it all the way to max .
As for the cap , they take a trickle of power from the battery and store it only for big notes , i have never had a single problem with power since i started using one.
On the other hand , on the Mk4 escort and the 306 i uprated both alternators to high ampage one for around £120-£200 . I had both mine done by this guy KLIK ME

Dynamat is an excellent addition:thumbsup

I also delocked my bootlid and put silicone behind the rear plate to eliminate all vibrations.

Pet hate of mine, You can hear an awesome sounding system but if the boot lock or number plate rattles (Like mine udsed to) then it ruins all the hard work you've put in. Not to mention the amount of money spent:thumbsup

They can only be fitted the way Steve has shown:thumbsup
don't know if you want to do this or not but i cut 2 2.5" wholes into the metal sheet under the rear shelf to fit some 6x9 then made a new shelf myself on my old 318. didn't notice any problems with the body work(unitil some idiot that could aviod a parked car wrecked it).

I did think to cut but main problem is it's part of the chasis and could possibly weaken. I have herd that some insurance companys refuse to pay up and blame problem on chasis being cut...

Theres honestly no need . There is no loss of sound from my 6x9`s through those smaller holes at all . My car came with them fitted and i just changed the speakers .I would even go as far as to take the ones of mine now i know how easy they are to remove and make some sort of gasket to seal it to the chassis . Hmmmm
Even less noise :hihi

Spot on man , i remember the 1st decent system i had , drove round with it bangin for months , then one day i stopped at side of road and jumped out to talk to one of my mates and when i heard the sound systm from outside i was frikin mortified. I could here locks, bumpers, wipers , everything vibrating and creating an absolute din .
Thats when i used dynamat for the 1st time . I got all the mat out recently when i done the rooflining on the beemer . I thought ill do this car properly , roof and all. That was until i saw the roof with the lining off.
Anyway , as anyone who has ever had their lining off will know , its like a panel from the frikin space shuttle under there , honestly .
Needless to saw it all got packed up again .
I can live with none on the roof this time.
