basicly as you guys know i am not happy with the steering and i have had two mechanics look at it.

i just rang up an indy bmw specialists and he told me he wants 55pounds just to look at it. at them kind of prices i would rather take it bmw themselves

£55........that is not bad mate, stealers are gonna charge you double that.

Some independants do charge and some don't for diagnosis work. The indy sounds like he's charging you an hours labour. Fwiw, my Volvo indy doesn't charge me at all for looking at the car, regardless of how long it takes him to either find a fault or confirm if there's no fault. So you could try phoning some more garages to see what they would charge for diagnosis of your problem.

Whilst not all dealers are crap, more often than not, the mechanics there these days simply do not go the extra mile to really investigate faults and the reason why they were caused etc.

My one real complaint with my dealer-

"while you're under the car for the MOT, can you just have a look at the exhaust at the front, it rattles, like there's a loose heatshield or something - can it be fixed?"

"we've looked at the car, that's £17.50. There is a rattle on the heat shield"

one was free and the other was twenty pounds.

both could not find anything wrong

I'm not a mechanic but a better explanation about what is wrong might help with a solution. :thumbsup

Mine creaks like an old man's bones at low speed. You can turn the wheel a few degrees at one particular point and it groans quite loud. Must get it seen to. :silly

when i go over manholes the car throws me a little

when i jab the brakes i get movement in the steering wheel but only when the car is on an uneven surface. if its a straight road its perfectly fine

also i the steering might just wobble for no reason

the free mechanic is a customer of mine, so in directly he costs me food and beer :lol

i think you could be right on this one. the left suspention is tighter than the right suspention but it could be anything. the steering and suspention is very complex

Have you had your rear suspension checked?

Sounds similar to the problems on my E34 and after getting a bar on the trailing arms bushes there was plenty of play... If one of the rear wheels is ever so slightly moving left or right it will be easier to steer one way over the other...

Just a thought mate, as i can relate to your problem...
