Topic is not related to boobs,

Anyway.. last week some moron in a lorry/truck thing decided to pull out in-front of me pretty sharp, carrying allot of loose crap on the back. Before I knew it my car was being pebbal dashed.. lovely thought I know. I was cringing at the sound of stuff hitting the front of my car. Anyway, when I got home I had a look at the front of the car and nearly cried.. it's gone from having a couple of stone chips to looking like freckles on a ginger kids face.

Car is now booked in to have a full front end re-paint next month, bonnet/bumper and then blended into the wings.

Question is.. Do I get a bonnet bra to protect the new paintwork or is there another cheapish viable solution? How do they look on the E36's? stupid I'd imagine.. but I don't want to end up with all the stone chips again :(

Same happened to me, out of interest what prices are you looking for the front being re-painted?

But as soon as I get the front done, I will invest in a "bra" (never thought I'd ever say that :rofl ) for driving the car but take it off when I am parked up. I'm not a fan of the looks but I have heard it makes a huge difference.

I love the looks of the car bra. And if they do a good job of protecting your paintwork.....bargain.

Do it :thumbsup

and water collects under them and you can get stains because of this....

They are big in the Dub scene and suit mk3s and 4s IMO:cool:cool

You could also buy the invisible film stuff - but it is very expensive and I've never heard how well it works. It gets a good press in the motorbike community (still very expensive!) but of course a much smaller 'impact area' and different vehcile use.

The big plus is that if well fitted it is pretty much invisible (and doesn't damage the paint or let water/dirt in behind)

you may look like a tit with it on but if its saves you having to get the front resprayed everytime you drive on an A road then crack on. wish someone had used one on mine before i got it.

Bonnet bras can actually marr paint as dust and dirt gets trapped underneath.:eek

BMW Specialist quoted 750.00,
Friends insurance repair body shop wanted 565.00, but there not BMW specialists, still I know they would do a spot on job..

I'd say your looking in the region of 500 upwards from any big company, if you take it to a smaller independent company you could probably get it done for around 300-400 but then it's finding one you can trust.

I personally don't like the looks of them on standard cars, but I can respect the fact it's doing a job a good condition car. I however hate seeing them on rusty old crap heaps.. lol

As for water/dirt..I clean the car at least once a week.. it would not have chance to collect and cause damage to the paint work so long as it's taken off when cleaned I guess

Seen a couple on euro styled cars, they look good on them but my cars totally standard excusing the re-trim ad you wouldn't notice that unless you own a bmw lol

I've had a look into it, it's called armourfend;

Like you said though.. it's expensive to have it all done. On the plus side the whole of the front bumper would be given protection. I'll give them a ring and ask for a guesstimate before I decide what to do. If it's not majorley over the top it's something I might consider.

Pretty much what you said, I am not going to fork out for another re-paint so I need to find a solution one way or the other to give the car some more protection.

Well, just as I posted that, the bonnet bra people got in touch with me and emailed a picture of a green E36..

Apart from the eyebrows *roll eyes* .. I genuinely don't think it looks as bad as I thought it would..

Protection limited to the bonnet leading edge though?

If you do get one, check out the U.S. prices first - they're in every 'Halfords' in the U.S, and even Walmart so likely to be miles cheaper than rip-off Britain?...

Thats the fella from Turkey. I don't think it looks too bad. Its something different and protects your car. But as said earlier in the thread that bonnet bra's can hold water and cause paint damage and marring of the paint. Not a 100% good idea to stop stone chips and everyday use, but its a good mod :thumbsup

How invisible is that armourfend?

Would appear so having looked at both diagrams, that's were the major ones have appeared on mine so it would appear they put a little thought into it;

Bonnet bra from the company who sent me that picture is 65.00, by the time you pay shipping / custom charges if it's pulled it would probably come to more..

I'll give armourfend a ring at some point today and see how much they want.. I can imagine it's the fitting of it what will rocket the price up, can't imagine it's a quick job getting it completely bubble free and invisible..

well if you just use it for driving and take it off when you aren't driving... I see them as being very useful. I am getting one when I have the front re-sprayed. I know it will do good in the long run. I don't think they look good and I know they have a nasty effect on the paint but for the deflection of stone chips when driving to shows or any where. Wroth it in my eyes :D
