Hi

I have an E46 320d - 150bhp 2003 facelift model with the following mods:

EGR delete
Swirl flap delete
Straight pipe
Hybrid turbo core in standard house (using the exact same settings as the standard core stop screw)
Ram air filter
Remap...

Now, I have the remap before I put the hybrid core into the turbo. But this has been an issue since the remap. My low down torque was stripped on after the remap and the turbo wasn't fully boosting till around 2700rpm but boosted all the way through to 4500rpm. Since the hybrid turbo core it comes in nicely now at around 2300/2400rpm.

For me that's a lot of turbo lag and its not very nice when your not in the right gear and there is literally no power. I've recorded some INPA readings for my charged air pressure/rajl pressure etc and I am hoping someone can help me make sense of it. Here is a video

9 seconds in I am cruising at 1500rpm in 3rd and floor it all the way down to 4500rpm where I let off. To me the car should be boosting way more than it is with its current setup. If you look at the desired air mass it evens to 279 however the current is 460's?!

Not only this, but whenever its under heavy load e.g. up a long hill in 4th/5th in the peak boost or even on flat in 5th/6th at peak boost, the car sort of hesitates and lets off then it feels like it boosts off again then stops boosting then boosts off again its so strange to describe but its almost like the turbo is spiking constantly i'm not sure?

Is it possible to adjust these settings in INPA and then do test runs until its fined tuned or what? Does it need a custom dyno map?

Any help would be appreciated to sort this out once and for all :confused

Thanks

Adam

I would advise you to take the turbo off and sent it to a turbo company with a flow bench who can set up your turbo vanes

I’ve seen this problem many times

Can you recommend anywhere decent?

Most places I've called want to flog me one of their cores at the same time so it's not cost effective..

Thanks

Hi mate,

Can you recommend somewhere that will setup my existing turbo and not want to flog me a core at the same time? I know my core is of decent quality etc so don't want to have to pay another company £400 for a core as well as setup.

Thanks

Have you tried accessing the VNT screw with turbo on the car? Never mind adjusting it lol. Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

Any good turbo specialist will test and set up your turbo on there flow bench without the need to selling you a core

The ones who say you will need to buy a core from them will probably NOT have a flow bench as I’ve see so many times with car on the dyno where the boost come in very late after a turbo change

You can give turbo dynamics tel 01202487497 a call and mention my company
