I have an E36 320i with manufacturing date 28/97, the engine started to get rough while idling and it has erratic engine running. Upon checking I noticed that one ignition is not firing. I replaced the ignition coil and spark plug but to no avail. Further checking shows it seem that ECU is not sending signal to the ignition and hence it does not firing the spark plug. We checked the rest of the ignition coils but they're all working fine except for this one particular hole. The mechanic is suspecting that the ECU might be a problem. Does anyone here has similar issue before with the ECU?

Your reply is much appreciated.

I'm not familiar with ECUs but sounds like wiring problem, not ECU itself.
better go check all the wires from ECU to ignitor, I believe u will find a gap
