Ok, so the car has always smoked from the exhaust more than usual, previous owner remapped it and removed dpf, egr.

So about 2 weeks ago started a very minor misfire, being Xmas it was difficult getting it sorted. From about 5 days ago the misfire has gone mental at idle, also misses whilst on the move, and it smokes like steam train at idle, and lesser so.when on the move.

Went to a garage today, and was told it was a catastrophic internal engine fault, said it was burning oil and water from the exhaust (having checked levels, it looks to have used a slight amount), it had no fault codes stored...
The garage said its too time consuming so wouldn't commit any further.

Where would you guys go with this, is it repairable or is the car gonna cost thousands to fix? My car is an absolute necessity, id be gutted to see it go but need to know either way.

Is there anyone in Manchester/Bolton who would be prepared to have a look for me, paid obviously?

Doesn’t sound like a catastrophic failure if it’s still running, more like a failed plug, lead etc and it isn’t firing on all cylinders. Get someone decent to look at it..

It could be as small as boost hose
Everyone remap these cars for higher bhp
But how many upgrades parts before calibration for higher bhp...bigger brakes??

Call ecu-tuning marketing... look at those parts higher boost put more stress on

Only thing kill 35d is snaped timing chain
Rest is fixable

So, had a mobile mechanic come out, did a compression test and said 1 cylinder was reading different.
Weirdly, the car ran well after the test, for a few miles, then went back to running crap again.
He thinks its one of the injectors, does this sound correct?

Yeah could be possible
Bad fuel filter
Bad fuel pump
Bad injector
Make these cars funny. You just need a correct diagnostic

If it was big engine failure it wouldn't run ok for a bit
Now you %100 sure first garage = cowboy

It makes things difficult as no codes or eml are present, might be worth swapping the fuel filter as its a cheap part.

Probably still on factory filter
Make big different
Also try use good clean diesel
Some old garage never clean their tank

Basically there is series of work need doing here...but proper diagnostic will pick up issues
No point just guess

Good news! Fuel additive would be a good start and as mentioned by Black, fuel filter. At least you know it’s not going to break the bank, first garage are proper cowboys!

error hydraulic pump high torsional vibrations

Car won't work properly for sure when this pump go. However I recommend using another software such as INPA, auto logic or bmw tools before final decision
I do have carly if im honest I don't trust this app %100 it's great but not %100

If I don't have the tools or a decent garage, I would stop collecting guesses and opinions and and take it to BMW dealer for proper diagnosis and definite answers and pay the money which is well worth it sometimes then take it elsewhere to fix it.
