Looking to get fully serviced before a remap, anything else worth changing at the same time other than standard kit? Thanks

I think the service kit is the fluid, filter/sump assembly and associated gasket from what I recall when mine was done.

Many thanks, is it worth changing the solenoid set at same time? Changing to metal sump pan also?

Thanks, I won’t be doing it, will be a specialist, I feel car holds into gears at low speed and is almost a 100k so as the dump is off is it worth having them changed? Thanks

when car is cold it will hold onto gears,,also in sport mode a little longer,,,as long as you are not getting jerks between say 2nd/3rd gear light throttle in ds mode ,,,,just proper zf kit with gallery seal and mech sleeve etc

No such things as genuine zf oil unless you go to the dealer and want to may more. The gearbox requires ATF 6 oil which you can get from brands such as Millers and Mannoil.

Something worth sharing. My 635d is at 104k miles and last gearbox service was done at 60k by the dealer. I say service. All they did was replace the pan and add 1 litre extra! I am shocked its actually in the invoice !

Anyway went to get the oil replaced at specialist and when they opened the fill hole oil poured out everywhere ! Anyway oil has been changed and gear changes are harsh. I am thinking maybe they put extra oil in to hide this which is very naughty. Anyway I am getting some Lucas Transmission Fix oil additive and going to get the specialist to put some of this in ( worked wonders on previous issue on other cars i.e. power steering on a Aston Martin Vantage and slow engine oil leak on a BMW 730d F01).

Finally when the gearbox is done including if I still have issues I am going to try a performance gearbox update that will change all the settings and can cure the gear change issue.

Last case - rebuilt gearbox 1k

It's virtually impossible to overfill the gearbox. It's filled correctly while engine running. If the fill plug is opened when engine is not running over 1 litre of oil will come out.

Are you sure its filled while engine is running? Did you hear this from another specialist? Certainly over 1 litre of oil came out so maybe it wasnt running. That is terrible. Going back to the 'speciaist' Friday and mention this while they also check the level.

Regarding genuine ZF oil - I am corrected.

I had my 635d gearbox serviced at a ZF specialist gearbox place and watched when they did it. He filled it up and then when he was somewhere near he started the car on the ramp and went through the gears and continued to fill it while it was running until the level was correct. It went from overflowing with the engine off to needing another litre or so when running.
cheers

Half the oil comes out of the torque converter when the engine is not running, and that holds a lot! Also - servicing should include changing the Mechatronic seals - it is failures in those that cause harsh gear changes.

Be it a 6hp19, 26 or other the equivalent items of 1 and 2 in this link should be replaced when doing a transmission fluid and filter swap otherwise your wasting your time.
Changing gasket Nr.2 would also mean dropping out the mechatronik unit.
