if your car has low milage, i would still take to the dealer and get the book stamped as this will affect your resale value, but if high miles do it your self:thumbsup
as your car is getting on for 5 years old now,i think the odd indy stamp in the book wont raise eyebrows.
if you are keeping the car for a few more years then there is no problem with doing your own oil changes, just keep receipts for the oil n filter as proof of you doing it.
not having a fsh wouldnt put me off...if the car is clean why should it put you off? i'd rather the car be clean with no history than limping all over the place with some history...
indy quoted me £330 for inspection 2 for a 330, dealer £353 so an extra 20 odd quid to maintain bmsh it's a no brainer really - you qualify for 4+ discount so ask you dealer
i bought my car and was told ther was a fsh...didnt hav any history at all...av had it almost a year and not 1 things wrong with it...i get an indy too do the services(he owns a 735i)so he knows his beemers..stealers prices are shocking and dont justify future re-sale values anyway...evn if you try sellin it too the dealer whos serviced it..he will still rob you blind anyway!!keep reciepts and log your own work if you struggle too pay an indy.,,:thumbsup
thanks for all the replys, im going to see wot they quote me, prob have it done this time with the dealer because still got used warrenty with them, if its not too expensive then concider doing it myself after that!
the main problem that i have is i dont like other people working on my car even if it is just a service.
i looked long and hard to find my car, its 2001 with 80k and full main dealer / bmw specialist service history!
i think this is important as it shows previous owners have not held back when it comes to maintaining the car!
although some people do it all themselves when your actually buying you dont know that, you have to take there word for it, they could have changed the oil/filter just before they sell and never in the past few years?!
however im now going to do yearly oil / filter changes myself as i dont drive a lot of miles!
will still be taking it to my local bmw specialist for its inspection1 in 7000 miles time when its due just to keep the records upto date though which i think is important, and at the end of the day its only going to cost me about £165 so not the end of the world!!
yeah i will, i live by a garage called autotech which is a bmw specialist, they've been servicing my uncles 323i for the past 5years and he swears by them!
and there prices are good, like i said £165 for an inspection1, and thats using top quality castrol edge 5w-40 oil and all bmw genuine parts! so im happy to pay that all day long!
on a 5 yr old bm I would get the garage to do it save on the resale
