Hey everyone,

I introduced myself yesterday and stated that I would probably have some really stupid questions that may need answering.

To cut a long story short. I put a deposit down on a new bmw 3series yesterday and hopefully will be picking it up a week friday.

Ok, so here is the noob question.
What is the red button/light thing on the rear view mirror? :embarrassed

It's to indicate the doors are locked and alarm is armed it flashes every couple of seconds

I thought it may have had something to do with that.

I have read elsewhere that the car still has this light even if you don't have a alarm. Is this right?

All BMW's destined for the UK have alarms fitted as standard, the red light your refering too is called a "Clowns Nose" and it flashes red if the alarm is armed, in America the red light is still there but does nothing as an alarm is an aftermarket addon hence why the Americans ask the question alot, some even retrofit the alarm.
