Hi everyone,

I did a ISTA diagnostics check today at my local BMW Specialist as I had a few error messages on my 2011 BMW e92 330i with around 49k miles on it (picture attached).

The BMW Specialist informed me that the battery was in good condition as it was outputting a voltage of 12.33V. However, after running the ISTA Diagnostics check, he found two error codes that came up, the attached picture show's these error codes.

He said he’ll need 2 hours to investigate these error codes at a cost of £85 per hour, so totalling £170. Once he’s found the fault, he’ll be able to inform me of what the price will be to get these errors fixed.

I wanted to ask if these prices seem fair for me to go ahead with before I inform him to go ahead with the investigation and fix?

Thanks

Would appreciate some guidance on this thread of mine before I give the local BMW Specialist a call :)

Suppose the hourly rate depends on location but my local is £50 and worth every penny he knows his stuff.
I would say the battery is past it's best as 12.33v is not full charged.
How old is the battery.
Not impossible for it to still have the original one still fitted mine lasted over 11 years and then it went on another car.

Thanks for your reply. I'm London based so I assume naturally it’s going to be a bit more, so £85 seems reasonable to be honest.

I did have a quick look at the battery in the car and it’s a BMW branded battery, so it could well be the original one. I’ve attached the image of what the findings my BMW Specialist shared with me and also how the battery looks like inside my car.

Neither of the 2 error codes currently exist

I would propose to clear them and see if they return

of course if you have to pay each time this could become expensive but maybe your specialist should have done this already …..

anyway sounds like a potential wheel speed sensor issue maybe..?

So I told my local BMW Specialist to swap over to a new battery today, just for my peace of mind as the old battery was starting to show its age. He swapped it over to a Bosch AGM 115 car battery. He then cleared the error codes on ISTA and they reappeared both on ISTA and the vehicle dashboard after a 20 minutes test drive. This was expected to be honest.

So tomorrow he will be changing over the left wheel speed sensor and also investigating the second error code.

Also could you please clarify on what you mean by neither of these 2 error codes exist?

Thanks

They are recorded as non existent on your screen shot
I don’t know why the BMW specialist needs to investigate these then? Unless he’s just ripping me off then?

Even though both error codes were still present even after the battery change.

Strange case - the speed sensor swap will tell a lot - and it’s not expensive
BMW specialist mechanic got back to me and told me after his investigation everything else seems to be fine other than the sensor, which he’ll be replacing on Monday with a BMW original. So should be all good to go after that.
