Good morning all,

I've recently had my car diagnosed with a faulty hydraulic ABS Pump. I'm stuck in a bit of a predicament because Grosvenor BMW in Reading wanted £2,200 for the unit alone - not to mention the price they'd have charged on top for recoding and bleeding the brakes.

I'm aware of a company (ECUTesting) that will repair the ABS unit for around £200, which avoids the need for the unit to be recoded to the car as I understand, however the car would still need it's brakes to be bled. Naturally, I can't remove the ABS unit and then drive the car to a garage when the unit returns as I would have no brakes, and Grosvenor BMW will not keep the car for the 5-7 days that it would take me to get my unit reconditioned.

I'm not aware of any alternatives that are going to be cost effective and as I understand a used (breaker etc.) unit is a) hard to come by b) would need recoding to the car increasing cost c) would need the same part number (I understand that for my age car alone there are several!).

If I could find a garage that would keep the car for that amount of time it would be ideal, however if anyone knows of any other solutions (or any garages that may be willing to help) I'd be quite willing to hear them.

Thanks

Dan

Thanks for your reply. I'm desperately searching breakers now trying to get hold of one, but according to one I spoke with; they go just as fast as they come in!

Had the same issue a couple fo weeks ago and got the pump done by Steve Rowley BMW Specialists in Cheltenham. £290 for the pump to be rebuilt and then fitting etc ... total for the job was circa £500 all in with a warranty on the pump.

I got mine fixed by ECUtesting.com about 18 months ago, they provide a good service. Took it off and refitted myself, not a difficult job.
